The sale of chromite by EVOLMAT MINERALS

EVOLMAT MINERALS supplies chromite in the following forms:

  • SAND, carefully selected and graded according to the required specifications and properties (particle size, density, colour, chemical composition, etc.).
  • POWDER obtained by GRINDING. The mineral is ground to achieve the desired fineness, particle size and density. In this case, it is referred to as ‘chromite powder’.

EVOLMAT MINERALS sells chromite under the brand name BRIOREF®CHROMA.

What are the applications of chromite?

Chromite is widely used in foundries due to its refractory properties.

In foundries, it is often used in green sand moulds for complex castings (with cores).

Chromite’s refractory properties (1700–1800°C) also allow it to be used in the manufacture of refractory bricks. These can safely undergo heating and cooling cycles without suffering premature wear.

Chromite powder is also used as a colourant in ceramics (glazes and frits), certain bricks and terracotta tiles, wine and beer bottles, and is also a component in the cement manufacturing process.

Chromite is also used in certain leather tanning processes to increase the leather’s durability and prevent decomposition.

Chromite ore is still predominantly used in all stainless steel compositions. The ore gives the alloy its resistance to rust and corrosion. It is also used in chrome plating, which further increases the hardness of the coated steel and gives it a shine.

What are the properties of chromite?

Chromite offers excellent refractory properties and is used at temperatures of around 1700°C–1800°C.

This ore offers high thermal stability and resistance to thermal shock and corrosive gases.

What is chromite?

Chromite is a natural chromium ore with the chemical formula FeCr₂O₄, which is particularly valuable for its refractory properties.

Chromite is used in a wide range of industrial applications in the form of sand or powder. It is mainly sourced from deposits in South Africa, although there are also deposits in Turkey, Albania and elsewhere.
